MYN Sunday Funday Sunday Funday w/ Soul Clap

This week I decided I really want to start honing and really focusing on one artist instead of multiple to make sure you guys really get to know these fabulous artists in depth. I was inspired by my recent trip to a little festival in Los Angeles put on by Hard Fest called Day of the Dead; I spent my whole night in the Discotheque (house music tent) and was blown away by a performance from Boston house music duo, Soul Clap. This dastardly duo is making some deep, funky house music that is definitely bringing sexy back.

I was surprised to find out that these two actually taught a class at Tufts University about dance music and through this, they themselves learned more about the music, they know and love. In light of this fact, it will come as no surprise that they have incorporated sounds from all areas of House music’s past from New York and Chicago, to Detroit and Philadelphia; every set is practically like a lesson in the history and future of house music. Their discography is similar in the sense that they have many originals and remixes that take inspiration from the best of the past and make music that looks forward in terms of taking the House sound and putting their own spin on it. This really says a lot about who they are as artists and with as much love as they’ve been getting it comes as no surprise that this year they finally started their own label, Soul Clap Records. Even though the label is in it’s infancy you can already see they have some solid releases from up and coming artists like Nick Monaco and Night Plane among others. These guys are cultivating a sound all their own and supporting other artists who do the same and that is always great to see. Check out their tracks below and the acccompanying link here which includes their Hard Day of the Dead set list and a bit more about who these guys are as artists.
