Not more than 6 months have passed since Simian Mobile Disco’s acclaimed album Unpatterns was released and they’ve already got a fresh new experiment of an EP A Form Of Change. The dastardly duo of James Ford and Jas Shaw have taken their unrelenting experimentation and put together another mind-blowing, game-changer compilation of tracks for your ears and brain to work over. This EP is only four tracks long, but each one is a masterpiece unto itself. If I had to describe the whole feel of A Form Of Change, I would describe the sound as epic minimal techno soundscapes; there are so many sounds that it’s hard to place the EP, or any of the songs, into one genre. “Everyday” has the most incredible drums, they are pounding and unrelenting, along with a house break down reminiscent of a proper classic house anthem. Then there’s “Breaking Time”; this track is pretty sparse in sounds, but doesn’t lack in it’s danceability; this is just proper minimal tech house. Next is “Unfixed” which starts things off pretty quickly jumping right in with a four by four drum beat and throws in whirling synths somewhat reminiscent of a Four Tet track; this track is lighthearted yet moody, trippy yet dancy, something you have to hear for yourself to understand. And last, but certainly not least is the name sake track “A Form Of Change”, which probably stands out the most from the other tracks. This one stands out the most from the other ones as it takes a bit longer to get in to; never the less it takes you to a place that is just as musically adventurous as the others with it’s evil horn sounding synths, light snappy drums, and the marching beat which keeps it all moving along. Overall, another amazing musical journey from the boys of Simian Mobile Disco that you should check out and support to the fullest!
