The sheer amount of quality that comes from Boysnoize Records always surprises me because it’s not an easy task, especially in this day and age when many dance music artists and record companies alike are taking the easy (dollar making) way out; this new EP from SCNTST just continues that streak. SCNTST comes at us with a fresh EP Melodic Structures, which manages to create a cohesive feel of banging techno throughout with other elements thrown in. For example, the track “Not Sure” has an old school house feeling intro with piano keys and all, and then breaks it down into a nu-disco style groove with banging drums that keep the techno feel alive. Never the less they have the track “Da Bizzy Jump” which is dark and ominous and hits you over and over with synths and drums from all sides; it reminds you that this is BNR and they known for than their cutting edge techno meant to destroy dancefloors. The same goes for the track “Let U Go” although the breakdown in this track is ethereal and includes some of the most sublime distorted vocals with old school drums that would sound right at home in a house track. Rounding out the EP are the tracks “Phisyq”, “Emotion”, “Rhythm Sticks”, and “Invisible Rain” which all have their own distinct flavor. This work is unmistakably BNR and yet at the same time pushes the boundaries of techno and creates a sound all its own. Look out for an official release on 10/29/12 through Boysnoize Records.
