Music producer and songwriter, M A N I K, is making waves in the EDM music industry. The New York native DJ produces an array of eclectic EDM tunes, making it known that M A N I K is genre of its own. This young DJ and producer was named ‘Hot to Watch of 2011′ by DJ Mag and isn’t stopping there. This week, M A N I K will be performing live in his very first music festival at Decibel Festival in Seattle, Washington.

Tell us a little about yourself.
Born and rasied in NYC- Music producer. Love electronic music, hip hop, indie pop and so forth. Good music is good music.
I see that you’re from New York. Do you think living in an urban and modern city such as New York has influenced your production of music?
Yes, I grew up in Queens, but I live in Brooklyn now. I think living in NYC influences my music by how I interact with my environment. The people, the moods, the subways all give me a fantastic visual element which is then turned into music.
What made you get involved in music?
Artistic expression is the key to happiness. This makes me happy and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
What are some important aspects people should know about you as an artist?
I hate genre locking terms and my philosophy on music is just do you. I think being yourself is the key to producing music.
What are some of the things you look forward to when performing live at a festival?
I’ll be djing this weekend at Decibel festival. I’m looking forward to it because this will be my first time performing in live in a music festival. I’ll be playing a lot of my new music as well as classics. I’ll play it by ear
