Hard Summer continues to creep closer and closer and it is now less than a month away. My excitement level, as I’m sure yours is also, is getting higher and higher. I can’t wait to get down and dirty at Hard Summer to all the DJ’s that will be gracing the stage with their presence come Aug. 3rd & 4th. This week I’m moving back to the Harder stage lineup for Saturday which is heavy on the dubstep, bass music, and moombah. With the likes of Datsik, 12th Planet, Gaslamp Killer, Trolley Snatcha, DJ Antention, and Codes you can be sure that the music coming from this stage will be hard-hitting and aggressive to say the least.

Datsik
Datsik (Troy Beetles) is a young dubstep DJ/producer from Canada who frequently works with the likes of fellow Canadian’s Excision and Downlink. He released his first full length album this year titled Vitamin D and features collaborations with the likes of Downlink, Z-Trip, Infected Mushroom, Jonathan Davis, Messinian, and Snak The Ripper. Despite this being his first full length album he has quite a lot of work under his belt and has been working hard, pretty much non-stop since his beginnings as a producer around 2009. His sound is really just fucking huge if you could describe music like that which I think you can. What I mean is that his bass is larger than life and it has a really smooth quality to it that he then warps and twists around making his own unique sound among the currently muddy land of dubstep.

12th Planet
12th Planet, otherwise known as John Dadzie, comes from right here in LA. He is one of the first to bring the dubstep sound to America and is frequently hailed as the “American Dubstep King”. He has worked with the likes of other locals like Skrillex and Flinch and other producers from all over from the likes of Doctor P to Skream. He has been around since the beginning and is definitely hear to stay. If you haven’t had the chance to check him out then now is the time. He has a hard and sharp sound with warped baselines that attack your ears like no other. You won’t want to miss out because I’ve seen him before and the man knows what he’s doing!

Gaslamp Killer
The Gaslamp Killer is another DJ from LA and is part of the underground bass, hip-hop sound that’s been coming out of LA for the past couple years along with a slew of other DJ’s that includes 12th Planet among others. In 2006 he helped found Low-End Theory “L.A.’s monolithic weekly showcase for uncut beat-driven tracks.” He has a unique sound that can be describe as extremely bass heavy, a little bit of dubstep with some drum n’ bass thrown in, with a dash of crazy on top. Especially with his massive head of hair and beard he looks like a mad beat scientist when he is on stage doing his thing. He lets the music rip and tear the dance floor apart while he loses his shit on stage….I know from experience. This will definitely be a unique show and something to experience if you haven’t seen him before so if you’re into heavy, smashing basslines and losing your shit then you should be here for this.

Trolley Snatcha
Trolley Snatcha is a dubstep DJ/Producer straight of the UK and is part of the Dub Police collective of artists which includes other names you might now like Rusko and Caspa. His sound definitely leans towards brostep but it’s quite polished and some of it sounds a little bit similar to the likes of Flux Pavilion and Doctor P. I’m not really sure what to expect as I’ve never seen him perform before but of the dubstep artists that are going to be at Hard he definitely stands out and I think he’ll definitely be one to check out if you like your dubstep nice and crunchy.

DJ Antention
DJ Antention comes all the from Russia and he doesn’t fuck around. His sound is hard and fast and will hit you right in your face. His music can’t really be described as dubstep so much as a really, really hard electro with a lot of bite. The sounds are reminiscent of Huoratron but sped up. It kind of sounds as if nuclear war has actually come true and it’s the end of the world but in a way that makes you want to dance. If this all sounds like your cup of tea then check out his tracks and be ready to dance instead of hiding under a table because when this man’s nuclear bombs drop on the dance floor you will want to be there to experience it.

Codes
Codes is an up and coming Moombah DJ/Producer who comes from Brooklyn, New York. He is signed to Slow Roast Records and has released one official EP but has been making the rounds on the scene and playing as many shows as possible and growing his fan base. He mostly works in the genre of moombah but also incorporates house and hip-hop and his EP shows this with the variety in the sounds in each song. He hasn’t been around for too long but this is why you should check him out now; see what he can do and watch him grow into his own and become the great artist that he will become; he’s already well on his way.
