Firday Flashback Fridays w/ The Prodigy, 2ManyDjs/ Soulwax, and Carl Craig

It’s that time of the week, I’m ready to start your weekend off right with some big tracks from the past.

The Prodigy

The Prodigy are an Electronic music group formed in 1990 in Braintree, Essex. They are a genre of their own and their style is a blend of a variety of different genres today. You could say their music was the inspiration for many of the modern styles. They have sold 25 million records worldwide. According to them, “On debut album Experience, their rough-around-the-edges, renegade-break psychosis soundtracked rave’s free party antics at a time when dance artists weren’t supposed to release albums. The follow up Music for the Jilted Generation dragged guitars from rock’s bloated grasp, fused metal to dysfunctional beat alchemy and stormed the heartland of rock music’s venues at a time when dance acts were only supposed to play raves. With 1997′s The Fat of the Land and it’s brace of radio and MTV hogging singles (‘Firestarter’‘Breathe’, ‘Smack My Bitch Up‘) The Prodigy stormed the world’s festivals, headlined stages usually reserved for rock’s establishment and walked like Gods where other press-friendly artists failed to tread – and dance artists were previously uninvited.” They admit to being pretty cocky, but when you have as much influence on EDM as they do, they have a reason to be.

Something a little more recent.

2ManyDjs / Soulwax

2ManyDjs Flashback Fridays w/ The Prodigy, 2ManyDjs/ Soulwax, and Carl Craig

Soulwax is comprised of Stephen and David Dewaele, Stefaan Van Leuven, and Steve Slingeneyer all from Ghent, Belgium. The Dewale brothers who are the most well known part of the group also perform as 2ManyDjs, a separate persona that is comprised of only the two of them. They’ve been DJing since 1992, and after the Dewaele brothers became noticed as Soulwax they began to work on their 2ManyDjs and The Flying Dewaele Brothers projects. Soulwax and 2ManyDjs have been on tour since they released the Nite Versions of some of their older tracks, a modern update perfect for a club setting. Soulwax is almost certainly acid-house, their use of sound manipulation with a mixer is unbelievable and they are able to produce a variety of ‘trippy’ sounds. As 2ManyDjs they carry a lot of that technical talent into remixing tracks to their style. I would say aside from Crookers, they are incomparable to any other artist around today, their sound is unique and recognizable anywhere.
