MYN Flashback Fridays1 Flashback Fridays w/ Sven Väth, Deep Dish, & Depeche Mode

I hope you guys have enjoyed the posts we’ve put up this week, if you haven’t had a chance to look at it, please do. There’s a lot of great new music out right now from every genre on the website. Today, I’m taking you back in time for some more great classics.

Sven Väth

Sven Väth is a German DJ based in Frankfurt. He has been DJing since 1982 and is one of the most prolific DJs in the world. His album Accident in Paradise was rated as one of the top 50 albums of all time by Mixmag. This is the guy that will show up to a festival with nothing but vinyl and turntables and play an entire set without a laptop or CDs. You talk about impressive DJs, this guy has been doing the same thing with the turntables that DJs today have been doing for 30 years and without any of the technology, some of which does a lot of the technical work for you. He tends to plays a little different style than most in the United States are used to, plain and simple Techno even though one of his first projects was a trance project. I can tell you that a lot of producers today sound great because they are able to manipulate so many sounds at once that previously had not been generated, but “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”.

The track from the video is Solomun – Sisi

This song was recorded by Sven in 1987 under his pseudonym OFF. This song had a huge influence in propelling electronic music into the mainstream in Europe.

Deep Dish

Deep Dish are a duo of Iranian-Americans from Washington D.C. who have been making music since 1992. They are currently on hiatus for an unknown period of time, a major event to watch out for. Their tracks Flashdance and Say Hello were huge hits when they were released. Both members, Ali Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi have been doing their own thing. Shirazinia performs as Dubfire and you might have seen him on a festival line up or even heard one of his techno/minimal tracks. Sharam hasn’t been performing live much, but he’s been active as a producer. He’s made a lot of new house hits such as the remix of Eddie Murphy’s song Party All The Time. He’s also produced for Kid Cudi on the song She Came Along. He is about to release an album, Night & Day in July; look out for the release coverage here at Music You Need.

Every week in addition to the classic works, I’m going to post a couple of tracks that have been on my mind, not necessarily very old or new either.
