Nick Cross here again, showcasing another DJ/producer for this week’s Tipsy Tree Thursdays. This week I’d like to introduce a San Antonio based DJ/Producer named Chris Dennis, or Mr. Sir. Chris has DJ’ed for a year and a half and has produced for over nine months. His DAW of choice is FL Studio. He has remixed Lil Jon, Lil Wayne, and even the Internet sensation definitely-not-a-drug-trip that is Drinking out of Cups.
His latest remix is part of a remix competition for Diplo’s new track: Horsey. Mr. Sir’s remix drives the Moombahton home with a hard drop followed by some deep, rhythmic beats. I asked him about what he learned while making this track and he told me that his goal during this track was to get a unique dutch-type lead. He got that sound by applying a small sawtooth sidechain onto it to make it stand out from the kick drum. He then applied a chorus effect to bring out the sound. Give his remix a listen or download at his soundcloud:
Mr. Sir also has some original tracks. His latest is titled Elated and is an eerily uplifting house track. What I mean by that, is the synth/piano gives the track kind of a haunted house feel, but the kick and bass keeps it positive and bouncy. Check out the track here:
He has a dutch house track, Energy, that is very solid. He’s currently working on another house track, which is inspired by the big room house sounds of Laidback Luke and Avicii. I don’t think he can go wrong there! Here’s a link to energy:
Mr. Sir is very active on Soundcloud, so definitely check out his mixes, originals, and the rest of the crew at the booming San Antonio, Texas EDM Scene (SATX EDM).
